Yaremchenko M.S.
Results of vast majority studies are contradictory and do not give a clear answer to the question about the mechanism of the influence of resources on the economic, social and political processes in the country. The article analyzes the impact of resource abundance on level of property rights protection. The analysis compares data on 15 oil and gas exporting countries (including Russia). It convincingly demonstrates that the level of protection of property rights in oil exporting countries is not lower than the average of other countries. Moreover, differences in the level of protection of property rights among these 15 oil-exporting countries are so large that they can not be explained solely from the viewpoint of the resource curse, without further explanations.
