The article is devoted to a condition of small business in Russia and to those difficulties which small enterprises meet in our country, and also to the problems arising during an assessment of their cost. Among other points possible mistakes when calculating cost of small enterprises by means of three main approaches (profitable, comparative and expensive) to a business assessment are considered. The considered difficulties and insufficient state support are presented as one of the major reasons that the number of small enterprises in Russia was reduced in recent years. The author pays special attention to the small innovative enterprises which are represented more flexible and competitive, than the small enterprises which aren't engaged in innovations. In general it is easier to estimate their market value on profitable approach because their future cash flows are more predictable, than at usual small enterprises. It takes place in spite of the fact that all innovative projects, which can realize such enterprises, are always connected with risk and uncertainty. The enterprises, which are developing and introducing innovations, have prospect of growth of competitiveness and financial stability and with bigger confidence can look forward.
