The author considers the means of a retrospective analysis of innovation processes in the economy: their nature, structure and main characteristics. Against the background of this review process, the author defined as features and specificity of innovative processes in the modern economy. Also revealed their prognostic modifications and development trends. Innovation is presented as an economic category, in accordance with its basic features, modified by the author. Typology in the management of the current activity and long-term development of innovations submitted through the selection of different types on the basis of their classifications.
