Abstract. Now one of factors of social and economic progress is business activity which according to the contents and character is equated to socially active type of labor activity. In work various approaches to essence and business development are considered, its main functions and its factors defining are allocated. The importance of article is made by an assessment of the national report "Global monitoring of business". The statistical data presented in the report give the chance to characterize enterprise activity in modern conditions.
