The article discusses legislative protection for calculation of environmental damage. Special attention is paid to damage to water objects. There are some major legislative gaps in methodology of environmental damage calculation. There is a new Methodological provision for estimation of environmental harm to water objects due to legal violations officially adopted in 2009. This document is analyzed and the shortcomings are revealed. The ways to improve legislation and methodology of environmental harm calculation are suggested.
